If you recently made the decision to have dental veneers, you may be wondering what to expect during your appointment. Our team is going to give you a look at what you can expect during your veneer appointment so you have one less thing to worry about.

As your dentist might have told you, dental veneers are thin, custom-made tooth colored shells that are designed to cover the front surface of a chipped or discolored tooth. When you come in for your appointment, your dentist will first prepare the tooth for a veneer. In this preparation, your dentist will remove tooth enamel from the surface of the tooth. Generally, your dentist will only remove the amount of enamel that equals the same thickness of the veneer, usually about ½ millimeter.

When your veneer is made, your dental will first place it over your tooth to exam its color and fit. They will continue to refit and trim the veneer until it fits correctly over the tooth. After the proper fit as been made, your dentist will prepare your tooth by cleaning it and etching the surface.

After the tooth is prepared, special cement will be applied to the veneer which will then be placed on your tooth. Once placed, your dentist will position the veneer properly and harden the cement with a special light.

Once the veneer has dried, any excess cement will be removed and your bite will be evaluated to ensure a proper fit. After your appointment, your dentist may request a follow-up appointment to make sure the veneer is working well with your teeth and gums.
