If you’re a teen who wants a top-notch oral health and smile, then our dentist, Dr. Derek Lichter, has some tips for you. It’s very important to make smile care a priority. You should brush twice a day, floss once a day and attend your checkups every six months. You should also have a smile-friendly diet. That’s right! Food can affect the health of your teeth and gums. To help you, our dentist would like to share the following nutrition tips with you:
A balanced and healthy diet should include fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy products and lean proteins. These foods have the nutrients your teeth and gums need to stay healthy and strong. Some foods, like fruits and vegetables, can even clean your teeth as you eat them! So, do your best to fill your diet with these tooth-healthy foods and drinks.
When it comes to snacking, it’s best to avoid it. In fact, snacking throughout the day can harm the smile because it constantly exposes the teeth and gums to sugar, high carbohydrates and other harmful substances. If you do end up snacking, make sure to make it quick and to rinse your mouth with water and chew sugar-free gum after. This can wash your mouth of food particles and bacteria.
