You know that brushing your teeth is one of the most important things that you can do to make sure that you have a healthy smile. Brushing your teeth removes food particles and plaque that can cause cavities and gum disease. But how often should you brush?
You should brush at least twice a day, once in the morning and once again at night. Brushing after meals is a good idea if your schedule permits it. If you have time to brush after each meal, you should wait at least thirty minutes after your meal. That will give the saliva in your mouth time to wash away any acids from your food, and keep them from damaging your teeth when you brush.
It is also important that you brush correctly. You should brush with a fluoride toothpaste, and you should spend about two minutes brushing your teeth. Most people are good at brushing the fronts of their teeth, but you should not forget to brush the insides and the chewing surfaces of your teeth. Don’t forget to brush your tongue.
While brushing your teeth is of the utmost importance for your dental health, brushing, no matter how well it is done does not replace regular visits to your dentist for a cleaning and an exam.
