Are you afraid your child will grow up disliking the dentist, dental office, and dental treatments? If so, our Derek M. Lichter, DDS, Inc. team has some tips that will increase the chances of your child feeling more calm and comfortable in the dental chair.
As your child grows, we recommend doing these things:
-When you come in for your checkups, bring your child with you. Doing so will help them get used to our office and will also help them get to know our friendly dental team.
-When talking about the dental office and treatments, avoid using negative words like “hurt,” “needle,” “pain,” “scary,” etc.
-At home, play “dentist” instead of “house” with your child. As you play, go through the motions of a dental checkup so your child becomes familiar with the process.
-Talk to your dentist, Dr. Derek Lichter, and ask him how he explains treatments to children. The soft, comforting words will help you explain the treatments to your child without scaring them.
-When your child asks you questions, answer them honestly but do your best to be sensitive.
Doing these things will help make the dentist, dental office, and dental treatments seem less scary. So, try them out!
