If you have dentures or you’re thinking about getting dentures, then chances are you’re probably thinking about the best way to clean and take care of them. After all they’re a serious investment and taking proper care of them as well as your mouth will insure they last for a long time to come.

Rinsing your dentures helps remove any food debris that might have gotten stuck near the teeth or your gum line. If you like to use an adhesive, rinsing helps remove any leftover to give you a clean surface for a better fit the next time you wear your dentures.

Once you feel they’ve been thoroughly rinsed off you should brush them with a soft bristled brush. Keep in mind that you don’t want to use abrasive toothpaste. You should look for a denture toothpaste or denture cleaner that has earned the American Dental Association Seal of Acceptance. This seal insures that the ADA has researched and tested the product for safety and effectiveness.

It’s also important to give your own mouth a light brushing. Make sure you brush your gums, tongue and the roof of your mouth. This will help remove any bacteria or plaque that could harm gum tissue or cause bad breath.

When you’re not wearing your dentures you should soak them in water and put them some place safe. Drying out your dentures can cause them to warp and shorten their lifespan.
